These lidded vessels suggest intimacy or separateness and are intended for use as funerary urns and memory boxes. One of my objectives when making these pieces is that they will fit comfortably into a domestic or garden setting as decorative works of art whilst at the same time fulfilling their function.

Over the last few years I have received commisions to make bespoke crematorium urns from people who are preparing for the end of their own life. Several of these requests have come from those who have reserved niches in the newly built barrows. I encourage clients to participate in the design process, responding to their initial ideas by producing a series of tiles testing colours, patterns and textures to ensure suitability before beginning work on the urn itself. These tiles have proved popular as keepsakes once the urn has been placed in the barrow.
